Beginnings

The project to improve safety at Short Beach was born of love, and of frustration: love for the beach, and frustration that people trying to get to it were regularly ending up in the hospital emergency room; love of nature, and frustration at the massive, and growing, swath of dead hillside between the road and the beach.

A Place to Rest — and Another, and…

I mentioned retaining walls. Some I built out of driftwood, knowing that by the time it rotted the ferns and sal-al (the dominant local underbrush there) would have stabilized the soil, but — as I mentioned — some I built out of railroad ties.
